Born on December 5, 1929 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Matthew and Rose (Coinberry) Catania. He grew up in Wethersfield and worked for 29 years at Cedar Crest State Hospital. He loved Country music and movies, and liked to play his guitar. He loved animals of all kinds, especially German shepards. Joseph was remembered fondly by his family as Kokomo.
Besides his wife of 63 years, Joseph is survived by his sons, Albert Catania and his wife Laurie of Bristol and Joseph Catania, Jr. of San Francisco, California; four half-brothers, Bruce, Danny, Brian and Bill Catania and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a half-brother, Doug Catania.
The family will hold a private funeral service and a private burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
