

Joseph “Joe” DeMilia, 94, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Carol (Wheeler) DeMilia, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2017 with his family by his side. Joseph was born in Hartford on July 26, 1922 and was the son of the late Michael and Antonia (Capossela) DeMilia. Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a true craftsman and a painter by trade, owning and operating Colonial Painting and Decorating until his retirement. He took great pride in the many wooden toy trains, airplanes, cars, trucks and buildings he built by hand. In addition to his wife, he will be dearly missed by his son David S. DeMilia and his fiance Linda Klusek, son Peter V. DeMilia, step-daughter Elizabeth D’Onofrio and her husband Leonard, step-son John Roper and his wife Elizabeth, step-daughter Kimberly Cobrain and her husband Richard Van Cleave, his grandson Joseph and step-grandchildren John D’Onofrio, Daniel Roper, Allison Violette and their children. He is also survived by his sister Angela D’Onofrio, brother Vincent DeMilia and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his son Michael and daughter JoAnn along with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s name may be made to the organization of your choice.
