

Josephine “Jo” (Fiducia) DeAngelis, 90, of West Hartford, beloved wife for 49 years of the late John M. DeAngelis, Sr., passed away peacefully at home with her caring family by her side on Friday, February 12, 2016. Born in Hartford on May 31, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Josephine (Branca) Fiducia and had lived in West Hartford most of her life. Josephine was a 1943 graduate of Hartford Public High School and attended the University of Hartford. She worked for Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford for 42 years. She was an avid dancer and talented roller skater in pairs competition, where she and her partner won third place in a National Competition. She also enjoyed playing basketball and tennis and was a loyal fan of the UCONN women’s basketball team. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime faithful communicant of The Church of St. Timothy, West Hartford, was a member of their Women’s Club and was a recipient of the church’s St. Joseph Award. She was also very involved with the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) and received their Of God and Youth Award. She volunteered for many years at The Cove in West Hartford, where she was known by all as “The Brownie Lady.” More than anything, however, she was devoted to taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking and her Jello molds, which she made for the sick and for many family members, were legendary.
A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Josephine will be dearly missed by her two devoted children, John “Jordy” DeAngelis, Jr. and his wife Patty of West Hartford, with whom she made her home and Jody Marie Nazarchyk and husband Richard of Waterford; six adored grandchildren, Jamie Nazarchyk and husband Ajaye Alston of New London, Courtney Collier and husband Andrew of Bloomfield, Richard Nazarchyk of Waterford, Jodie Danielle Nazarchyk of Middletown, Cara DeAngelis and husband Mark Olesnevich of West Hartford and Justin Nazarchyk of Hingham, MA and two cherished great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Jayson Alston. In addition, she is survived by her loving goddaughter, Mary Janet Dube and husband Jerald of Nashua, NH. “Aunt Jo” also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who adored her and will miss her beautiful smile, as well as several former co-workers and dear friends. Besides her husband and parents, Josephine was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will begin Wednesday (February 17) at 8:45 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main St., West Hartford, CT 06117. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
