Julia A. (D’Angelo) Murphy, 90, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026. She was preceded in death by her first love and husband, Frederick J. Murphy, the father of her children. She was later predeceased by her second husband, Joseph A. Scalzo, with whom she shared many years of love and companionship. Born in Pratola Peligna, province of L’Aquila, Italy on October 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Franco and Giovanna (DiCioccio) D’Angelo. “Julie” came to the U.S. as a very young girl. She grew up in Hartford, graduating from Bulkeley High School. Julie became a real estate agent, then the co-owner of Gulf Manufacturing, Inc. in Rocky Hill, where she also served as the office manager. She was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. Julie loved cooking, baking, and always looked forward to hosting large holiday dinners. She was famous for her delicious pizzelles. More than anything, she cherished any time spent with her family.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Julie will be forever missed by her son, James “Jim” Murphy and wife Julie of Rocky Hill and by her daughter-in-law, Ulana Murphy of Ellington. Julie was sadly predeceased by her beloved son, Joseph Murphy. Julie leaves behind five adored grandchildren, Joanne Harrington and husband Patrick of Tolland, Stephanie Hart and husband Jason of Matthews, NC, Allison Carone and husband Nicholas of East Berlin, Kelly Bolden and husband Kyle of Bloomfield, and Nicholas Murphy of Rocky Hill and her four cherished great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Shane Harrington, Lucia Carone and Murphy Hart. She will also be fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Julie’s siblings sadly preceded her in death, her brother, Vinny D’Angelo and two sisters, Marie Brooks and Carmela Malinguaggio.
Calling hours will be Friday, August 7 from 9-10:15 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. James Church of Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street Rocky Hill. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julie’s memory may be made to St. James Church of Josephine Bakhita Parish, where she was a devoted member.
