Katherine Kathy"" H. (Saviske) Plunge

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, Katherine “Kathy” H. (Saviske) Plunge of Wethersfield. Katherine passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. Katherine was the beloved wife for 57 years of George Robert Plunge. Born in Hartford on October 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Helen (Shagis) Saviske. Kathy made Wethersfield her home for the last 42 years. She was a graduate of Hartford Public High School. She worked for BESB Industries for a number of years and most recently served as a receptionist at CW Resources for the past 13 years. In 1991 Katherine was selected as National Blind Worker of the Year and was honored by President George Herbert Walker Bush in the Oval Office. Kathy was a longtime faithful communicant of the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield where she was a past member of the Women’s Club. She was a founding member of the Visually Impaired Exchange of Wethersfield and she also served on many fundraising committees. She and George were avid campers and enjoyed many summers at Hammonasset State Park with their family and friends. Kathy also enjoyed traveling, the beach and being outdoors in general. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved laughing and spending time with her family and many friends. More than anything, however, she cherished her time with her grandchildren, who were her life. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Kathy will forever be missed by her husband George; her daughter, Laura Bloomquist and husband Doug of Wethersfield and her two adored and cherished grandchildren, Alyssa and Kevin Bloomquist. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Connors of East Hartford; her nephews and niece, Mike Connors, Dennis Connors, and Carol Fish, as well as a host of extended family members and dear friends. We are all better people because we knew her.

Funeral services will be Saturday (February 11) at 10:15 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
