Kathleen Alice (Hewins) McGann, 66, wife of Brian McGann, since 1994 of Wethersfield, passed away on February 24, 2021 at home after a long illness. Kathy was born in Hartford to the late Dorothea and Joseph Hewins. Kathy grew up in Enfield, CT where she attended (not frequently) Enfield High School and miraculously graduated in 1973 LOL! She enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Kathy spent many years at the Hartford steam boiler insurance company. Kathy was also an avid animal lover and supported numerous animal charities. Kathy loved to feed the birds and squirrels in her backyard. She even cut the screen so she could hand feed the squirrels that sat on the window ledge daily. Kathy would do anything for family friends and animals. She had the biggest heart. Kathy will be most remembered for her amazing sense of humor, wit and intellect. My God she could make you laugh or give you “the look” as all Hewins women can! For so many years she was the glue in the family. She worked hard to keep everyone together until she was no longer able to.
In addition to her husband Brian, Kathy is survived, and will be dearly missed by her siblings; Robert Hewins of Cape Coral Florida, Richard Hewins of Cape Coral Florida, Patty Hewins of Glastonbury, Connecticut, Barbara Valbona and Doug Maronn of Enfield, Connecticut, Steven Hewins of Simsbury, Connecticut and Tara Hewins and her wife Laura Cashman of Bloomfield, Connecticut. Kathy also leaves her niece, Alyssa Valbona, her nephew Brenden Hewins as well as numerous cousins and Brian’s adult children: Karen Pedemonti and Brian McGann Jr.
Kathy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Kathy and Brian’s neighbors, the Guerard/Saccente/Dawkins family for all their kindness through the years.
Lastly, it must be said that no one loved Kathy more than her husband Brian. His love for Kathy had no boundaries and he would do anything for her. He cared for her tremendously in her last few years.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be planned in the future when it is safer for everyone to gather. In lieu of flowers or donations, make someone smile and laugh today. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel of Wethersfield has been entrusted with the arrangements. For online tributes, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com
