Kristine (Sheaffer) Savo, 75, longtime Wethersfield resident and loving wife to the late Michael Paul Savo, peacefully passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024. Kristine was born in Pensacola, FL on September 13, 1948, the eldest of five daughters to the late George W. and Mary Barbara (Walsh) Sheaffer. Kristine attended Eastern Connecticut State University and graduated in 1970 with a Master’s in Education. She used her degree in teaching to shape young minds for the Town of Wethersfield Board of Education for over 35 years. She lived and loved to teach, especially her elementary school students. Every person she encountered in her career carried a piece of her with them for the rest of their lives. Her family members could never escape old students or coworkers coming up to them and telling them how Mrs. Savo was always their favorite teacher. Kristine retired from teaching to take on an even more important role: a full-time grandmother. She assured her grandchildren’s lives were filled with trips to the library, home cooked dinners, movie nights followed by sleepovers, and cozy Christmases surrounded by countless Santa figurines. She inspired a love for learning in them that only a teacher could produce. Even in the bad times, she always made sure to tell them that she loved them. She will always be remembered as their Mimay, a name recalled with only the largest amount of love.
Kristine will be forever missed and remembered by her loving family. She leaves behind her two sons, Brian Savo and his wife Sarah of West Hartford, and Kevin Savo of Avon, and four adored grandchildren, Julia, Sophia, and Olivia Savo, and William Savo. In addition, she leaves her four sisters, Diane Damato of Glastonbury, Suzanne Williams of Voluntown, Kathleen Sheaffer and Maureen Robertson, both of Waterford; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Savo family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, August 23, from 12 - 2 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield. Inurnment, next to Michael, will follow the visitation in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Avenue, West Hartford (Sec. 4C).
