Larry G. “Butch” Boughton, 91, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband for 57 years of the late Lorraine (Parente) Boughton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Born in Manchester on October 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Richard Goodrich Boughton and Beulah (Howell) Boughton.
During the Korean War, Butch served with distinction as a paratrooper in the elite 187th Airborne regiment earning the lifelong title of a “Rakkasan”.
Butch learned the value of hard work early in life and was a fiercely dedicated labor advocate. He officially became a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 671 in 1960, serving as steward for Vallerie Transportation for over 30 years.
He also held a lifetime love of boxing after becoming a featherweight champion in the military. After stepping out of the ring, he became known by local kids as “Butchee”, passing the sport down to the next generation.
During his retirement, Butch enjoyed traveling and gardening, but his favorite role was “Poppy”, dedicating his days to babysitting his cherished grandchildren.
He missed his wife Lorraine with a quiet, constant ache. For the rest of his days, not a single meal tasted quite like her Sunday dinners.
A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Butch will be forever missed by his children, Joseph Boughton and wife Kathleen of South Windsor and Kelly Pellegrino and husband Frank of Rocky Hill; four adored grandchildren, Joseph Boughton, Jr. and wife Jessica, Anthony Boughton and wife Samantha, Daniel Pellegrino and Alyssa Pellegrino and two cherished great-grandchildren, Taylor and Collin Boughton. In addition to his wife and parents, Butch was predeceased by all his siblings, Pearl, Dickey, Bobby, Donaline, Frederick, Myrna and Melvin. He also leaves behind a large and loving family of Boughtons and Parentes, including numerous nieces and nephews spread across the country whom he always kept in his heart.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff with the Hartford Healthcare Hospice Team for their compassionate care in his final days.
Calling hour will be Wednesday, September 2 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
