Leila Sergobin, 69, beloved wife of Reverend Pastor Calvin Sergobin, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2021. Leila was born on January 10, 1952, in Guyana, South America and was the daughter of Sahodra Singh and the late Suruj Persaud. Leila and Reverend Calvin married on November 21,1969. Shortly after getting married they had the opportunity to move to the Bronx, and started their new life and family. In 1973 she and her husband decided to move their family to Hartford. Leila was employed by the State of CT, Dept. of Social Services, for 27 years before her retirement in 2001. Being a woman of strong spiritual faith, she then spent her remaining time supporting her husband, at the First Church of the Nazarene, in Hartford. Together they also formed The Independent Church of Redeeming Grace. Leila and her husband knew the importance of family and worked diligently to get their family here from Guyana so they could all be together making wonderful memories. Leila enjoyed traveling, reading her bible, singing her hymns, participating in compassionate ministries, being a Sunday school teacher and secretary for the church. She will especially be remembered for always being devoted to her family and her loving kindness. She especially enjoyed spending time with her precious grandchildren. Leila was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
In addition to her husband and mother, Leila is survived by her son, Paul Sergobin and his wife Sabita of Hartford, and her daughter, Dianne Gopaul and her husband Raj of Wethersfield. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Rachel, Roshini, Roger, Rebekah, Reece, her goddaughter; Kayla Baksh, her sister Savitri Persaud along with her seven brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law; her maternal Aunts; Sattie Ajodhi and Seeta Singh, her many cousins, nieces, nephews, her church family and extended relatives and friends.
She was sadly predeceased by her son, Roger Sergobin, maternal uncles; Ji and Ishri Singh, her brothers; Hemnauth and Lenard Persaud
Family and friends invited to pay their respects, on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. On Saturday, October 16, 2021, everyone is asked to meet the family directly at the First Church of the Nazarene, 932 Capital Ave., Hartford, for her services from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
