Leyda Sprouse

Leyda M. Sprouse, 76, of Rocky Hill and formerly Hartford, beloved wife of the late Harry J. Sprouse, Sr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico on May 8, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Anacleto and Marcelina (Leon-Sanchez) Rodriguez. Leyda received her BA from CCSU. She served proudly in the U.S. Army National Guard and worked for more than 30 years as an Insurance Underwriter for Travelers. Leyda was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Hartford.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Leyda will be forever missed by children, Harry J. Sprouse, Jr. and wife Flor of West Hartford Reuben J. Sprouse and wife Aurea Alcantara of Wethersfield; her stepchildren, Douglas Sprouse and Sandra Sprouse, both of East Hartford; her beloved grandchildren, Kayla, Noah, Madison, Julianna, Veronica, Juan, Anthony and his wife Alaina, Jazalyn, Joseph, Jovany and Dante and her cherished great-grandchildren, Abel, Willa, Nayeli, Matthew, Jovany, Jr, Jayliani and Janiyahlise. She is also survived by her brother, Jose Antonio Rodriguez of Puerto Rico and her sister, Edna Acosta-Newson of Hartford, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Virgen Rosado. Special thanks to the staff at Apple Rehab for their care and compassion.
