

Linda A. van de Wint Jorgensen, 63, of the historic West End of Hartford, loving wife of George W. Jorgensen for over 35 years, died peacefully, Friday, May 23, 2014 at home with her loving and devoted family by her bedside. She was born, raised and educated in The Netherlands and was a graduate of the University of Amsterdam. She was the daughter of the late Johannes M. and Erna A. (Modder) van de Wint. Her career started as a translator and guide at the Anne Frank House, next with the US State Department as a translator. She became Vice President of the National Construction Company, Inc. and sister company Capital Investing Company, later to be Chief Financial Officer of both. Most recently, Linda was the Managing Partner of the Jorgensen Group at Morgan Stanley, overseeing the group’s operations, portfolio management, risk management, and women investors’ initiative. She entered the securities industry in 1986 and earned her designation as Registered Representative in 1987, while working for Shearson Lehman Brothers. Linda joined Morgan Stanley in April of 2002, specializing in portfolio design, construction and management for high net worth clients, businesses and municipalities. Recognized by her peers for her knowledge in the area of retirement planning, she was featured in several industry publications and participated in business segments on local TV and in print media. She was also a Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM and a member of the exclusive Wealth Advisory Group at Morgan Stanley. She was co-founder of the Female Financial Advisors Network at Prudential Securities and a member of the Merrill Lynch Chairman’s Council. In 2013, Linda was selected as a Five Star Wealth Manager by Connecticut Magazine. Fluent in seven languages, she traveled the world extensively. In addition to exploring the length and breadth of Europe, she visited such diverse places as Russia, Turkey, the Great Wall of China, the Hutongs of Beijing, the island of Hong Kong, Tokyo, Japan, Santiago, Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina. While traveling the world was her passion, Linda was very active in her community. She co-founded the Connecticut Women’s Council, an organization for business and professional women. She served as President of the Board of My Sisters’ Place, a local inner-city homeless shelter for women and children, as Trustee of the Harriet Beecher Stowe Foundation, and was the first non-Hispanic Board member of the CT Puerto Rican Forum. She also served on the Allocations Committee of the United Way of the Capitol Region and performed board training for its members. In addition, Linda served for many years as a civilian volunteer for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and supported charitable events including Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life events and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Bunny Hop. She served on the 1st Congressional District Advisory Council of the Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women and as a Board Member and North Sector Representative of the West End Civic Association. A longtime faithful parishioner of St. Patrick & St. Anthony Church, Hartford she served on the Finance Council and the golf committee of the church. Linda was currently serving on the Investment Committee of the United Way of Northern and Central Connecticut and as Special Advisor to City of Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and his Global Cities Initiative. She was a member of the University Club, the Harford Club, the Town and County Club, Goat Island Yacht Club in Newport, RI and the Groton Long Point Yacht Club. Together for over 40 years, Linda and George were always full of positive thoughts, never negative. She was one of the most loving, compassionate, peacemaking, intellectual, successful, charitable, giving and beautiful women in the world. Her belief in God was her guiding light and will be with us forever. Linda will be missed by many.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital Cancer Center, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the care, love and compassion shown to Linda and her family. Besides her husband, she is survived by her 3 children and 6 grandchildren: son David Jorgensen and his wife, Rachel Lutzker Jorgensen of Hartford and their children, Samantha and Alexander, daughter Sarah Jorgensen of Newington and her children, Tre and Lily, daughter Sally Jorgensen of Old Greenwich and her children, Dillon and Skylar, and her brother Johannes E. van de Wint of Amsterdam as well as extended family in the Netherlands, England, South Africa and California.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday (May 27) from 4-8 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday (May 28) at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick & St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. The burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Center at St. Francis Hospital or the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
