

Louis O. Winkler, 84, a longtime resident of Wethersfield, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur L. and Florence K. (Fischer) Winkler. Lou was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He served in the Headquarters, 43rd Infantry Division Adjutant General’s Office and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany, eventually becoming the Division’s Sergeant Major upon the Division’s return to the United States. Lou was a retired officer at Aetna Insurance Company. He later worked for the Town of Wethersfield and served on the Historical Society. His interests were gardening and traveling. He was a member of the American Legion Post #23 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7827, both in Wethersfield. Lou had many friends and he will always be remembered fondly and with great affection. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. The burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford with full military honors. There will not be any calling hours. Funeral arrangements by the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel.
