

Lucia (Misseri) Buscema, 92, of Cromwell, beloved wife of the late Carmelo Buscema, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025 with her family by her side. Lucia was born on November 9, 1932 in Canicattini Bagni, Provence of Siracusa, Sicily and was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Santa (Fiore) Misseri. Lucia and Carmelo were married in 1954 and spent 60 wonderful years together. She worked many years at the Royal Typewriter Company in Hartford and Bradlee’s Store in Middletown, where she eventually retired from to spend time with her family.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lucia will be dearly missed by her son, John Buscema and wife Connie of Rocky Hill and her daughter, Concetta Veneziano of Cromwell; her adored grandchildren, Carmela Berube and her husband Jim of East Berlin, Santo Veneziano and his wife Kelly of Cromwell, Samantha Buscema of Rocky Hill and Dylan Buscema and his wife Ashley Buscema of Rocky Hill. Lucia also leaves her cherished great-granddaughters, Melissa and Amanda Veneziano, as well as her brother-in-law, Angelo Ruocco and sister-in-law, Giuseppa Zimmitti.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lucia was predeceased by her son-in-law, Giuseppe Veneziano and her sisters, Josephine Ruocco and Concetta Carbone. She was also predeceased by her husband’s siblings: Teresea and Vincenzo Bianca, Angelina and Corrado Lombardo, Elena and Giuseppe Taraccio and Giuseppe Zimmitti.
Lucia loved to crochet and knit, but most of all she loved cooking. Her passion for cooking was unparalleled and she was famously known for her homemade cookies, pasta, arancini and cutlets. Her memory will live on through her recipes she shared with friends and family.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, August 28 from 9-10:45 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield.
