Lucy (Cobisi) Amato, 99, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 68 years of the late Joseph V. Amato, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Born in Hartford on April 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James and Santa (Motta) Cobisi. Lucy worked for Hartford Hospital in the Admitting Department and then worked in the Wethersfield High School Guidance Department for many years. She was a longtime faithful communicant of the Church of the Incarnation, was a member of their Women’s Club and sang in the choir for over 50 years. Lucy enjoyed spending summers with her family at their cottage in Miami Beach, Old Lyme and loved making Christmas cookies with her grandchildren every year.
A loving mother and grandmother, Lucy will be forever missed by her daughter, Joanne Johnson of Dover, NH; her son, Joseph M. Amato and wife Lisa of South Glastonbury; and her three adored grandchildren, Kristina Amato and partner Keith Lombardi, Nicole Monahan and husband Sean, and Michael Amato and partner Olga Habermehl. In addition to her husband and parents, Lucy was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Francis Tummillo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 18, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
