Lucia "Lucy" (Spada) Russo, 95, of Hartford, beloved wife of the late Stefano Russo passed away at home on Monday September 14, 2026. Born in Hartford, CT on September 6, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Sebastiano and Maria (Riccardi) Spada.
Throughout her life Lucy was blessed with many titles; daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Lucy loved nothing more than being surrounded by the people she loved. She took great joy in hosting holidays and family gatherings at the generational family home on White Street in Hartford. A home filled with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, children, and friends and also love and plenty of traditional Italian cooking. Lucy also enjoyed dressing beautifully and adding some sparkle with her cherished jewelry. Even in her final moments she was dressed well and showed that special sparkle that was a part of her.
Lucy leaves behind her beloved children; Sebastian “Subby” Russo (Carol), Eugenia “Gina” Civitillo, Maria Berman (Richard) and Stefano “Steve” Russo. She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul and Tommy Spada and her beloved son-in-law Christopher Civitillo Sr. Her love and legacy also continue through her grandchildren, Marcel Inghilterra, Lucy Inghilterra (Jason), Christopher Civitillo Jr. (Jennifer), Sarah Meyerhans (Noah), Christina Russo (Wynter), and great grandchildren Jackson and Lilah Civitillo, and Logan and Henry Meyerhans. Lucy was fortunate to have many friends and relatives in the U.S. and Italy.
The family would also like to give special thanks to the many caregivers for their help and devotion, most notably Rosa, Pansy and Cynthia, who have all become part of the family. Lucy will be loved and remembered for her life of love and devotion to her family. The traditions she taught will continue at every gathering with love just as they always have.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 23 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield.
