Lucia “Lucy” (DeNovellis) Cappellucci, 88, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 68 years of the late Antonio “Tony” Cappellucci, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Caramonico, province of Pescara, Italy on October 9, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Josephine (Sanelli) DeNovellis. Lucy came to the U.S. with her family in 1950. She and Tony married in 1955 and settled in Wethersfield to raise their family. Lucy worked at Franklin Giant Grinder in Hartford, where she could always be found behind the counter, serving customers who became friends. She was an excellent cook and baker who loved to host family and friends for delicious meals. She also enjoyed canning, knitting and gardening. She and Tony belonged to the Mt. Carmel-St. Cristina Society and loved going dancing. More than anything, Lucy loved spending time with her family, and especially cherished being “Nonna” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lucy will be forever missed by her three children, Wayne Cappellucci of Wethersfield, Terry Antonucci and her husband Phil of Wethersfield and Rob Cappellucci and his wife Tracey of Old Lyme; eight adored grandchildren and twelve cherished great-grandchildren who will forever cherish memories of their “Nonna.” She is also survived by her sister, Rose DeLisa and husband Frank and her brother, Mario DeNovellis and wife Donna, all of Newington; her sister-in-law, Jean DeNovellis of Rocky Hill and many dear nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Tony DeNovellis. Special thanks to the staff of the Hebrew Center for Health & Rehabilitation for the care and compassion shown to Lucy.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Lucy and Tony will be held on Thursday, February 15 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
