Luigi Cusano, 97, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband of the late Giovanna “Jennie” (Quagliano) Cusano, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Born in Sepino, Italy, Luigi was the son of late Francesco Cusano and Maria Pizzente.
Luigi loved being outdoors; his career as a gardener for the City of Hartford became a passion outside of work and in his retirement. His garden at home was beautiful to see and abundant for sharing. He was a proud member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel/Saint Cristina Society. Luigi enjoyed making (and drinking) wine and making cured sausage, which earned him the praise of the “master stuffer” among family and friends. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida and could be found many nights playing cards and enjoying laughter. Luigi was “everybody’s grandpa” and brought a calm joy everywhere he was. In his last years, he was able to enjoy a great love, his great-granddaughter, Maya. She was his entire world and, to her, he was “my Nino."
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Joyce Cusano, his granddaughter, Jennifer Vignone, his great-granddaughter, Maya Vignone, his sister-in-law, Lilian Quagliano, and his many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Luigi was predeceased by his wife, Jennie, his son, Frank, and his brothers, sisters, and several nephews.
A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Road, Wethersfield. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish (St. James), 767 Elm Street, Rock Hill, on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
