Madeline F. (Clancy) McCarthy, 94, devoted wife of Donald J. McCarthy of Glastonbury, entered into God’s care on Friday, October 24, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in Hartford, Madeline was the daughter of the late John and Madeline (Powers) Clancy. She was raised in East Hartford and spent her most joyous years during her 66 years in Wethersfield as it was during that time that she and Donald raised their family. For 30 years, Madeline enjoyed the smiles and interactions with children during her time working at the cafeteria at Wethersfield elementary schools. She took great pride in her family and her faith and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother..
Madeline enjoyed watching baseball, listening to the radio and playing the slot machines. During her later years, she found comfort in the daily mass on TV from the Archdiocese of Hartford and was particularly fond of the masses presided by Fr. John Gatzak
In addition to her beloved husband, Donald, of 76 years, Madeline is survived by her children: Donald J. McCarthy, Jr., Nancy E. Charneski and her husband Joseph, John K. McCarthy and his wife Rian, Margaret A. Loosemore and her husband Thomas, and Mary F. Czaja and her husband John. She also leaves her precious grandchildren: Joseph and Jeffrey Charneski, John Dera, Kathryn Read, Gabriella McCarthy, and William Czaja, and six cherished great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, John F. Clancy.
In keeping with Madeline’s wishes, her church and burial services were private. She was laid to rest in her family plot at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
In keeping with her love for children, for those who wish to honor her memory, donations may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their love and support. Her family would like to thank those who cared for Madeline at The Residence at Glastonbury and at Hartford Hospital. To share a memory or photo, please visit the funeral home’s website.
