OBITUARY

Makayla Eyanna Thomas

April 20, 2006October 7, 2019

On October 07, 2019, heaven gained another angel when Makayla Eyanna Thomas took her final breath at the tender age of 13. She and her twin brother James, Jr., were born in Hartford on April 20, 2006, to Eulalia “Lolly” Garcia and James Thomas. Makayla endured so much in her short life yet was such a happy warrior. She was an extremely strong, determined, adorable, intelligent, resilient, bubbly and loving young girl. She lit up a room when she came in and had a way of making people smile no matter what they were going through, especially with her own special sign of affection, "hand hugging". Makayla loved being taken for long walks, listening to harmonica music, especially Aiden and Evelyn, and hanging out with family and friends. She loved the beach and all large bodies of water. Makayla was her mom's everything! She taught everyone about true love, patience and understanding with her silent strength and defeated the odds on so many occasions. Makayla was someone to be admired. She will forever be missed and remembered by her mom and twin brother; her stepfather, Kahari Robinson; her #1 grandma, Margaret Garcia; her aunts, Marielise Rivera-Garcia and Adelina Silverman; several cousins to include her special baby cousin, Cheyanne Gooch and a ton of amazing friends at her school, The Gengras Center and at the CT Children’s Medical Center, where she spent a lot of time during her beautiful life. The family would like to extend an indebted thanks to the attentive and tireless nurses who became family to Makayla; Pat, Rachael and Brenda. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Connecticut Children’s Sunflower Kids Palliative Care Program that had the privilege of caring for Makayla during her journey. Make checks payable to: Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation and mail to: Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation, Attn: Greg Jordan, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday (October 14th) from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with a celebration of her life immediately following at 12 p.m. at the South Congregational Church, 277 Main Street, Hartford. Sweet Makayla,
I’m so glad I had the chance to be your kindergarten teacher and to know you. Your smile always lit up our classroom and you brought joy to all who knew you. My prayers are with your mom, brother and family during this sad time. Rest In Peace ❤️

Lolly I have so many memories of Makayla, my favorite is when she would look like she was sound asleep and then just start her beat boxing raspberries. Makayla stole my heart years ago and I'm so glad I had the pleasure of spending time with her at Connecticut Children's. Makayla always made me smile, she made my heart happy and I have wonderful memories of her. Thank you for sharing her with me.

My beautiful Kay-Kay,
I’ll miss getting you to smile with raspberries and musical toys, or simply telling you hi and I loved you while getting a hand hug while you roamed the hallways. Be free my homegirl, and run free with your fellow Gengras angels that we miss dearly but know welcomed you when you arrived at the pearly gates with open arms. I’ll love you forever sweet girl.

We are so sorry for your loss. Makayla and our daughter, Halyn, we're friends and classmates at Gengras and in Wethersfield. We know your pain, as we lost Halyn this year. They can now play with each other on heaven free of their earthly constraints. Take solace in knowing she's not alone.
