

Maria (Merendino) Argento, 89, of Hartford, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Argento was born in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. She was the wife of the late Giuseppe Argento and daughter of the late Carmelo and Santa (Uccello) Merendino. She is survived by her son, Salvatore Argento of Hartford, with whom she made her home, a son, Carmelo Argento and his wife Lina of Wethersfield, a daughter, Santina Glasson of Wethersfield, grandchildren, Maria Giarratana and her husband Sebastian, Felicia Argento, Michael Glasson, and Sharon Glasson, as well as her great-grandchildren Antonio, Sofia and Joseph. She also leaves her sister, Constance Rataic, brother-in-law Antonio Sollima and sister-in-law Myrtle Merendino. She was a special aunt to Carmelo and Angela Sollima and Jim and Maria Bold and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Salvatrice Argento, son-in-law Paul Glasson, three brothers, Frank, Tony and Joseph Merendino, and three sisters, Mattea Franzo, Rosa Sollima and Lucy Mancarella. Mrs. Argento was employed as a dietary aid at St. Francis Hospital for 23 years. She was a longtime communicant of St. Luke Church and an active member of the Canicattini Bagni Society. Mrs. Argento was deeply religious and very generous in heart and actions. She was devoted to her family and loved cooking and spending time with them. Her greatest joys in life were her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to her. She will be sadly missed. A special thank you to Bliss 11-East for their kind care. Funeral service will be Saturday at 9:00 AM at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 227 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Church, Hartford. The burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at funeral home.
