Maria Cormaggi

Maria Cormaggi, 59 of Newington, loving daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin, peacefully passed away in the early hours of Saturday, February 25, 2023 in Hartford Hospital. Maria was born January 16, 1964 in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy, and raised in Hartford, one of three daughters to Sebastiano Cormaggi and the late Concetta (Nucifora) Cormaggi. Maria attended Hartford schools and was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, Class of 1982. She continued her education at Central Connecticut State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Class of 2004. She was a Staff Accountant for ECHN in Manchester.

Maria was a long time member of the Greater Hartford Jaycees and the Confederazione Italiana. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family, enjoying all types of get togethers. In addition, she enjoyed traveling and volunteering her time for a variety of events and organizations, in particular, the 1995 Special Olympics Summer World Games held in New Haven, where she worked with the Italian Team. Maria was a strong supporter of many area Italian Clubs, attending numerous events and activities.

Maria will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family; two sisters, Rosalba Auteri with her husband Giuseppe (Joe), and Patrizia Cormaggi; the pride and joy of her life, her niece and goddaughter Luciana Auteri. In addition, she leaves her Zia, Maria (Nucifora) Giuliano in Menifee, CA; cousins, Salvatore, Rosemarie, Annamarie, Silvana, Corrado, and Rosinella, along with their spouses, and many close and dear friends. In addition to her mother, Maria was pre-deceased by her Zia and Zio, Rosetta and Dominick Giuliano.

Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Cormaggi family, Monday, March 6 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield at which time a prayer service celebrating Maria’s life will be held, with Fr. Michael DeVito officiating. Interment, next to her mother and maternal grandparents, Emanuele and Rosina (Floridia) Nucifora, will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 25), 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford.
