Maria Carvalho Mendes

Maria Carvalho Mendes of Wethersfield, 76, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2011. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and wife. Maria is pre-deceased by her husband Orlando Mendes and brother Armindo Carvalho. She is survived by her children Mark O. Mendes and his wife Tina, Michael O. Mendes, and Melissa Mendes Hickey and her husband Joe; four grandchildren Nicole and Gianna Mendes, and Kevin and Brendan Hickey; a sister Ilda Ferrie and her husband Jim, a brother John Carvalho and his wife Linda; a sister-in-law Maria Carvalho; a brother- and sister-in-law John and Rosemarie Mendes; two aunts Maria B. Mendes and Rita Galo; and several nieces and nephews. Maria had a large extended family, including a loving cousin Mia and her husband Rocha, who made her last years dignified and comfortable.

Her legacy will be the love, pride and concern she had for her family and the way she maintained and encouraged these loving ties through generations and across continents. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. There are no calling hours.
