Maria E. Salgado

Maria Emilia (Ferreira) Salgado, 82, of Hartford, beloved wife for 37 years of the late Jose Lameiras Salgado, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, January 19, 2026. Born in Pinhancos, Seia, Portugal on April 6, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Abel Ferreira and Maria Candida de Jesus Martins. Maria came to the U.S. in 1971 and she and Jose settled in Hartford to raise their family. She loved to sew, cook and spent countless hours in her garden. A devout Catholic, Maria watched Mass on TV every day.

A loving mother and grandmother, Maria will be forever missed by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Sergio and Heather Salgado of Wethersfield and her two adored grandsons who brought her so much joy, Jason and Jeremy Salgado. She is also survived by her brother, Antonio de Jesus Ferreira of Portugal; two sisters-in-law, Odette Salgado of Portugal and Nelida Salgado of Newington, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Special thanks to her in-home caregivers, who took care of her like family.

Calling hours will be Thursday, January 22 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
