November 24, 1923 – August 13, 2026
Marian Agnes Schwager was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on November 24, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Agnes (Breen) Schwager. Marian and Kenneth Southall married on June 1, 1946, and together they built a life centered around family, tradition, and deep devotion to one another. Marian was predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth, her brother Joseph Daly, her sister Gertrude Schwager Murray, and her brother Howard Schwager.
She leaves behind her children: Trisha Southall; Barbara Southall and her husband Paul Sullivan; and her sons Kevin Southall and Bryan Southall and his wife Cindy. She is also survived by eight cherished grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous joy throughout her long and full life.
In 1959, Marian and Kenneth purchased a cottage on Lake Sunapee, a place that quickly became the heart of the family. Over the decades, countless memories were made there — summers on the water, holidays, laughter echoing from room to room, and generations gathering under one roof. Marian especially loved the days when her children and grandchildren filled the lake house; those were her happiest moments. After retiring, she and Kenneth spent thirty wonderful years living at the lake they loved so dearly.
Marian was an avid sports fan with unwavering loyalty to the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. She rarely missed a game and cheered with the same enthusiasm whether her teams were winning or losing. She was an avid reader who always loved getting lost in a good book.
She also found great joy in the gardens that surrounded the lake house, spending many peaceful hours tending to flowers and creating beauty wherever she went. Marian was a gifted quilter and rug maker, crafting exquisite quilts and wool hooked rugs that remain treasured family heirlooms. We all cherish the countless sweaters she knit.
Marian lived a wonderful 102 years and never wavered her independence and vibrant, tenacious personality. To know her and be loved by her was a gift.
