Marjorie A. (bothner) Tavel

Marjorie A. (Bothner) Tavel, 88, of Rocky Hill, died peacefully Friday, (June 26, 2009). She was born March 19, 1921 in Fitchburg, MA, the daughter of the late Henry A. Bothner and Gertrude (Petersen) Bothner. She was a graduate of Fitchburg High School, class of 1938, and worked as a telephone operator at Fort Devens, MA for the duration of World War II. After marrying and moving to Rocky Hill, she worked at G. Fox & Co. for a Christmas season and began full time employment with the State of Connecticut at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home and Hospital for 18 years before retiring in 1983. She was a founding member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Rocky Hill, and was actively involved in the Altar Guild and the Flower Guild. Marjorie was an avid reader and frequented the Rocky Hill library on a regular basis. She also enjoyed dancing and at one time was a member of the Jane Hart Dance Club in Hartford. She is survived by her son, Keith W. Tavel of Rocky Hill; Keith's godsons Duncan and Michael McGowan of Torrington; a sister-in-law, Katharine C. Bothner of Fitchburg, MA; two nephews, Wallace A. Bothner and his wife Patricia of Durham, NH and Michael H. Bothner and his wife Elizabeth of Falmouth, MA; a niece, Katharine C. Bothner and her husband Eddie of Litchfield; five grandnephews, three grandnieces and many cherished cousins in the greater Fitchburg, MA area. She was predeceased by her brother, Wallace A. Bothner. She will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends. A Memorial Service will be celebrated Saturday, August 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 331 Orchard Street, Rocky Hill. Burial will be in the St. Andrew the Apostle Memorial Garden. There are no calling hours.
