March 22, 1933 – February 6, 2021
Mary (Zocco) Viveiros, 87, of Rocky Hill, loving mother, grandmother, aunt and godmother, peacefully passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 in Hartford Hospital with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. Born in Hartford, CT on March 22, 1933, Mary was the daughter of the late Nicola and Concetta “Tina” (Lombardo) Zocco. She attended Hartford schools, graduating from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1951. She resided in Hartford for many years prior to moving to Glastonbury for a brief period, and then to Rocky Hill for the last 25 years. Mary had a long history of spending summers at her family’s cottage at Soundview Beach in Old Lyme, CT. Her family owned and operated “The Seaview Restaurant” on Hartford Ave. where the Community Center now occupies the building. Along with her great love for family, Mary’s Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, Rocky Hill. Mary lived her life to the fullest. She hosted and enjoyed countless family gatherings. She had a great love for cooking, baking, and sharing recipes, as well as travelling. Her adventures took her to 38 of the 50 US states and their respective National Parks. Mary’s international trips took her to the family’s ancestral home in Sicily, as well as to other locations throughout Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Morocco and the Canadian Rockies. In addition, she especially enjoyed Native American culture and looked forward to attending annual Powwow festivals. Mary’s children were her focus, she devoted herself to them unselfishly, even while working at the Traveler’s Insurance Co., where she worked her way up the ranks to become the Supervisor of the Office of Consumer Information and was a proud member of the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals. Mary will be forever missed and fondly remembered by her loving family, a son and daughter-in-law Michael J. and Diane K. Viveiros in Glastonbury; a daughter Janet M. Viveiros in North Carolina; an adored granddaughter Mary E. McIsaac in Boston; her sister-in-law, Florence Zocco, a special niece and nephew, Tina Maieli in Sarasota, FL and David Zocco in Hebron, CT and their children. Mary is also survived by her very cherished friends/family Tina Valvo, Lucy Toffoli and their children. Along with her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother Joseph S. Zocco. There will not be any calling hours or wake prior to her Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, Brook St. Rocky Hill, CT. Dear Michael and Diane,
Your mother Mary was a wonderful friend to me and my husband Fran. We will miss her dearly. Please except our deepest sympathy on your loss. Every time we came home from Arkansas she couldn't wait to see us and set her table with goodies for us to enjoy. I loved emailing her as she enjoyed emailing me.
