

Matthew “Smitty” Smietana, 34, of Wethersfield, beloved son of Walter J. and Roxanne J. (Maznio) Smietana, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday (July 2, 2014). He was born on August 13, 1979 in Hartford and was a 1998 graduate of Wethersfield High School. Among his activities in high school were soccer, hockey and swimming. After graduation Matt was employed by the former Urban Pools and Hutchinson Landscaping. A talented chef, during his career he worked at Carbone’s Ristorante in Hartford and Cavey’s Restaurant in Manchester. In addition to his parents, Matt will be dearly missed by his sister, Stephanie S. Smietana and her friend Ryan Henderson of Montezuma, CO; his paternal grandmother, Josephine (Tyrcha) Smietana of Rocky Hill; uncles, Michael Maznio and wife Nancy, Joseph Smietana and Stanley Smietana, all of Rocky Hill; cousins, Michael Maznio of Rocky Hill and William Maznio of Middletown and his godmother, Denise Plude. Among his numerous friends, he also leaves behind his dear and special friend, Aleah Lombardo. Matthew had a special fondness for the children of his friends, among them; Lilliana, Taliah, Tatiana, Lucian,Wyatt and Jessica.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
