Michele “Michael” Motta, 63, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Hartford Hospital following a courageous fight against Covid-19. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Cavarra) Motta, his best friend and loving wife of 40 years.
Michael was born on March 31, 1957 in Canicattini Bagni, Province of Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. He was the son of the late Paolo and Santina (Gozzo) Motta. As a young child, Michael learned the craft of his family business alongside his father at San Remo Bakery. In his teens, Michael starred as a soccer goalie at Bulkeley High School, where he won two state championships with several cousins as teammates. He would go on to play the drums in his band, Scorpio, throughout the mid 1990’s. Music was always a passion of his, as were his Sunday beach days and tending to his garden. His biggest passion of all, though, was loving and supporting his family.
Besides his wife Maria, he is survived by his two sons, Paolo Motta and his wife Shannon, Michael Motta Jr., and daughter Cristina Motta of Wethersfield, a sister, Rina Formica of New Britain, a brother, Santo Motta and his wife Rita of Berlin. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Francesco Formica and Jack D’Amico.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately at the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield. To view the services in livestream, visit the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel Facebook page on Saturday (January 30th) at 10:30 a.m. A private entombment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
