Nadine (Smith) Petro, 100, of Hartford, loving wife to the late Nicholas Petro, peacefully passed away, Monday, June 30, 2025. Born in Highmore, South Dakota, daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Pahl) Smith. She attended and graduated from the Highmore School District. Nadine moved to Connecticut in 1942. She and Nick were married in 1951 and spent 66 wonderful years together upon Nick’s passing in 2017. Nadine was employed for over 20 years as an Executive Secretary for Colts Firearms and Royal Typewriter. After staying home to raise her children, she returned to work as a secretary in the Hartford Hospital Medical library. After working at the hospital for more than 25 years, she finally retired when she was in her mid 80’s. She and Nick loved to spend time in Old Saybrook and were most happy when spending time with their family. Nadine will be fondly remembered for her famous homemade apple pies.
Nadine will be forever missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Wayne Spracklin, in Cocoa, FL; her two grandchildren, Meagan Spracklin and Ryan Spracklin; a niece, Carol Morelli, of Hartford; two nephews, Joseph Morelli and Christopher Petro; as well as the many dear friends and wonderful neighbors in Knollwood Beach and staff at Avery Heights. Inurnment with her Husband Nick, will take place Friday, July 18, 2025 at 9:00 a.m., directly in the State Veterans’ Cemetery, Columbarium, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. There are no calling hours.
