Nicholas Petro

Nicholas “Nick” Petro, 93, of Hartford, beloved husband for 66 years of Nadine (Smith) Petro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Born in Sepino, province of Campobasso, Italy on November 5, 1923, he was the son of the late Serafino and Maria (Faenza) Pietraroia. He came to the United States at the age of 5 with his mom and brother to join his father, who was already here and had become a citizen. They settled in East Hartford and then Hartford, where he lived for the rest of his life. He graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1941 and then proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII until his discharge in 1945. After serving in the Army, he attended and graduated from Hillyer College with a degree in Accounting. Nick worked for the former Continental Insurance Company before starting his career at Allstate Insurance Company, first as an underwriter and eventually as an agent, a position he held until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Nadine, in 1951. Nick loved to go to Old Saybrook but more than anything, Nick was happiest when spending time with his family. A wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Nick will be forever missed by his wife Nadine; two adored daughters, Karen Kulinski and husband Michael of South Windsor and Linda Spracklin and husband Wayne of Rockledge, FL and his four cherished grandchildren, Alexa and Bryant Kulinski and Meagan and Ryan Spracklin. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Salvatore Petro and his sister, Nancy Morelli. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be Tuesday (July 25) at 11 a.m. at the State Veterans’ Cemetery Columbarium, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. There are no calling hours.
