Nicola Maglieri, 90, of Newington and formerly West Hartford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Born in Sepino, province of Campobasso, Italy on August 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Vittorio and Maria Cristina (Ficoccelli) Maglieri. Nicola worked for many years as a groundskeeper for Aetna Life & Casualty.
Nicola had a seemingly magical "green thumb" and took great pride in the vegetable and flower gardens that filled his yard. Especially noteworthy were his fig trees, which produced a remarkable abundance of figs, his fragrant gardenias, and his apple tree that grew red apples on one side and green apples on the other. He also made homemade wine, which graced the table at every family gathering.
A loving father and grandfather, he will be forever missed by his two children, Vittorio Maglieri and wife Katherine of Ridgefield and Cristine Maglieri and husband Mark Milbrath of Reston, VA and his two adored grandchildren, Nicolas and Grace Maglieri. He is also survived by his former wife, Rosemary (Prete) Maglieri and two sisters, Pasqualina Faenza and Maria Maglieri, as well as many extended family members.
Calling hours will be Monday, January 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church), 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Donations in Nicola’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
