Paul Shimwell, 54, of Wethersfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. He was the loving husband of Kathleen (Callahan) Shimwell. Paul was born in London, England on July 5, 1964, son of Richard and Penelope (Joel) Shimwell. Paul worked for the telephone company for more than 30 years. A dedicated and hard-working man, he knew how to enjoy his free time with his beloved family and friends. Paul possessed a quiet strength, and once a friend, he was a friend for life. When he had the time, he loved to go deep-sea fishing, proudly displaying the catch of the day and sharing the tale of how it was caught. He also enjoyed mountain biking and camping. Above all, his favorite activity was attending his sons’ sports games – especially soccer and wrestling, at which they both excelled. He was extremely proud of the man his son, Christopher was becoming. Besides his wife of 22 years, Paul is survived by his two sons, Christopher Shimwell and Nicholas Kolosky both of Wethersfield; a granddaughter, Mya and two nieces, Stella Aliano and Jasmin Callahan, all of whom he cherished deeply; his father, Richard Shimwell of Branford; two sisters, Samantha Strott of Clinton and Louise Aliano and her husband Sal of Wethersfield; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Sandra Gaetani of Newington and a brother-in-law, Timothy Callahan and his wife Linda of Glastonbury. He was predeceased by his mother, Penelope Shimwell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church) 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3-6pm at D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. To share a photo of Paul or leave an expression of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com

Sam & family, I'm so very sorry that Paul is no longer here with all of you. I had such a crush on Paul in high school even more so when you and I became friends thru Julia. Then there was one time when you & Paul were living together in New Haven, I think, and asked me if I wanted to be your 3rd roommate. But I just wasn't able to leave home yet at that time. I was bursting at just being asked by you both!!! Words are never enough with what you're going thru. All of your family are in my thoughts and I hope the pain eases with time. Luv ya!!!!! Linda

Thinking of you and your entire family at this time. Living next to you as a neighbor we have watched your children grow up and have taken part in many of their celebrations over the years. We are so sorry for your loss. Paul loved the sea and fishing was so much a part of him. Remembering him bringing over fish for us from his latest catch up in Maine and how proud he was of it. Remembering how great it was to talk across the fence in the yard with him about our yard work or just talking about the weather or the trips we had planned each of us. We are praying daily for you and know that God is holding you in his hands. I wish you peace and comfort and please know that we are so very sorry. We mourn with you and love you all.

I know Pauly from working at the "Telephone Co.". He was in a mutual department, Outside Plant. When in his company , he was always pleasant , cordial , in a good mood , seems he took daily routine in stride. A good person.I am sorry for your loss.

Paul will be greatly missed by myself and our crew. He was a very capable cable repairmen, who excelled in what he did. Everyone on our crew appreciated when Paul arrived to give them a hand.
Paul often told me, “Whatever you need, just call me….and I will help you out”, and he never let me down.
But it was more than work, as a person…Paul as genuinely liked by all. He had a cool, calm presence about him. We always joked about his "Movie star" hair and his good looks. He had a smile that put you at ease and a sense of humor that could make you laugh with a quick comment. He talked about his sons a lot which he was proud of. We will miss Paul tremendously. My condolences to Kathy and his family.

Kathy, Nick, and Chris, and Maya, we are so very sorry for your loss. We just learned of Paul’s passing and we are devastated for you. There is not one great memory, there are many. He was always the same no matter where or when we were together. His love for his family was always very apparent and comforting. Jake always felt like your third son. He couldn’t love you all more if you were blood. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. There are no words to express our sorrow. Sending our love to you all.

Any of his friends can tell you we were lucky to share in his full life. As an advantageous guy, I enjoyed all that we did together, but will always remember teaching him to ski in his jeans and a green army like jacket. But it is the brief “what’s up sweetie” phone conversations we shared on my ride to / from work that were always a highlight I will miss.

Kathy, since the night of our chance meeting with you, Paul’s life was more complete as he always shared his loving thoughts for you and the family. With Christopher, Nick and the family you both shared, his life was fulfilled.

Thank you Paul
