Paul Edward Sullivan passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026 - just days before his 55th birthday. He is survived by his parents, Tim and Gerri Sullivan; his son, Seamus Sullivan with Amanda and grandchildren Sierra and Anthony, and his daughter, Christina Sullivan. In addition, he leaves behind his brother, Tim Sullivan Jr. and his wife Emily; his sister, Bethany Sullivan and her wife Denise and four nephews, TJ, Tre, William and Vincent. Paul cherished his relationships with his extended family, including his aunts, uncles and cousins who felt like immediate family. He also leaves behind his beloved Jan Kycia, who he loved with all of his heart.
Paul grew up in the Blue Hills neighborhood of Hartford and attended St. Justin’s school and church. When he was in middle school, his family moved to the West End of Hartford and he attended Northwest Catholic High School, where he thrived as an athlete and comedian, developing strong friendships that endured into adulthood. In 1994, Paul graduated from Providence College, and took great pride in being a Friar. He bragged that PC didn’t teach you what to think, but how to think. He followed Friars basketball with a passion, and attended the Big East tournament annually, including the 1994 championship season. Paul’s friends from PC played an essential role in his life.
After graduation, Paul put his people skills to work as a salesman and excelled in business. He launched his career as a financial advisor at First Albany in 1997. Using his intellect and personality, he helped many clients accumulate life-changing wealth. Most recently, he worked at Janney Montgomery on a team with his father, Jan, and cousin and lifelong best friend, Chris Peters.
Paul was fiercely loyal to both people and causes. He was the type of family member and friend that had your back at all times, without judgement - especially when needed the most. Paul generously donated his time and money to worthy causes over the years, and friends and family knew that he shared what he had with anyone in need. His loyalty and generosity were his greatest strengths.
Paul enjoyed traveling to places like St. Maarten, Myrtle Beach and Italy. His trips with Jan to their condo in Puerto Rico were what he looked forward to the most, bringing him tremendous happiness. The island became his sanctuary.
Paul was most proud of the manner in which he, his first wife Heather and Jan were able to work together to support their children and grandchildren. His face always lit up when he saw his children, “Shady” and “Bini” and recently he would tear up talking about how much he loved his grandchildren, Sierra and Tony.
Paul’s sense of humor and propensity for debate were unique. He enjoyed luring others into heated discussions and when he sensed victory, he finished with a wink, a point, and a chuckle to acknowledge that he got the best of you. Those who knew Paul well knew that underneath that combative exterior was a sensitive and caring soul. We got to see the brilliance, humor, generosity and loyalty that made him who he was. We will always remember the laughter and love that he brought so often.
Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours on Thursday, July 9, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Justin-St. Michael Church, 230 Blue Hills Avenue, Hartford, CT. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul’s name to the Democratic National Committee (wink, point, chuckle) or Mayor Mike’s Foundation for Kids at MayorMikesFoundation.org
