Peter ""Pete"" Gorecki entered into eternal life and peace Wednesday, (July 11, 2007) at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, CA at age 87. Born in Hartford the oldest child of Nellen and Julian Gorecki, he lived most of his life in Wethersfield. He moved to Chico, CA in 1988 to be close to his children and enjoy his lifelong passion of playing golf all year round. After high school, Pete attended the University of Connecticut and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in World War II. An avid golfer, he began as a caddy, then member, of Goodwin Park Golf Club in Hartford. He worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford in the Production Engineering Department, where he was a member of the Aircraft Golf Club Team that won the Hartford Industrial 18-Hole Golf League Championship, as well as the New England Industrial Golf Championship, in 1957. A wise businessman and entrepreneur, he was a founding member of Fox Grove Country Club in Manchester, and went on to build and serve as President and Manager of Airways Golf Course & Country Club in West Suffield. He spent most of his retirement in California at Bidwell Golf Course in Chico and practicing golf daily with family and friends in the backyard driving range he built at his home. He will be deeply missed by his loving family, daughters Joyce of Sacramento and Lora-Jean of Austin, TX, and Jayne Squellati and husband Doug of Redding, CA; adoring grandchildren Jeffrey Zimmer, Sera Squellati, Tony Squellati, Joanne Gorecki, and Ava Rose Gorecki; three special great-grandchildren and many golfing buddies. His son, partner and best friend, John ""Jackie"", predeceased him in 1983. Pete was a devoted brother to sisters Stella and Mary Longo and brother Paul, all who predeceased him in Connecticut. Friends are invited to join Pete's family for a mass in honor of his memory at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Chico, CA and brunch afterward. Pete will be buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, next to his son.
