Richard A. Fuller, 86, recently of Cromwell, beloved husband for 57 years of the late Marie (Nabel) Fuller, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Pilgrim Manor in Cromwell. He was born in Hartford on May 21, 1932 to Harvey R. Fuller, Jr. and Mabelle (Everett) Fuller, and was a lifelong resident of Wethersfield until 2015 when he moved to Covenant Village in Cromwell.
Dick was a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a BS in Business Administration, and following college was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. He was employed by United Technologies as an employment manager until 1963, when he became the owner/operator of the Western Auto Store and Fuller’s Schwinn Cyclery in Wethersfield. Following the sale of the store, he returned to United Technologies as manager of program administration.
Dick served on numerous town committees, including a term on the Wethersfield Board of Education. He was an active member of the First Church of Christ of Wethersfield, where he served on many church boards. After his retirement, he enjoyed travelling with Marie, including trips to Portugal for several winters and to Elderhostel throughout the United States and New Zealand. Travel was his passion, and at last count he had visited over fifty countries. He also spent many summers on Southport Island in Maine, as well as plying the waters of the New England coast on his sailboat.
He was a loving father and grandfather, and he will be forever missed by his son, Bradford A. Fuller and his wife Sharon of Cheshire; his daughter, Elizabeth A. Davis and her husband Jonathan of Gales Ferry and his son, Christopher R. Fuller and his wife Lizbet of Nantucket, MA and six adored grandchildren: Austin Fuller, Eric Fuller, Jocelyn Fuller, Bronte Davis, Shelby Davis and Eli Fuller.
A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday (April 23) at 11:30 a.m. at First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street Wethersfield, with the Rev. Todd Willard officiating. Burial will be private in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield and there are no calling hours.
