Robert Hetu, 80, of East Hartford, beloved husband for over 60 years of Lois (Muzzy) Hetu, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Born in Hartford on July 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Henry and Irene Hetu. Robert graduated from Weaver High School, where he met the love of his life, Lois and they settled in East Hartford to raise their family. He worked as a skilled auto mechanic for Sears Automotive for many years.
Robert was a man of few words, but many actions. He showed his love for his family by fixing things around their houses, even when they were not broken. He was the person to call if something needed to be fixed or replaced, as he always had the spare parts. He loved spending time with family and enjoyed trips to Newport, Rhode Island, and Martha’s Vineyard. He was always up to play The Game of Life, and complete puzzles with his grandchildren, but he always hid a corner piece in his pocket to watch the chaos ensue.
A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Robert will be forever missed by his two children, Diane Martin of Wethersfield and Robert Hetu and wife Cindy of Berlin; seven adored grandchildren, Aubrey Poisson and husband Christopher Loftus, Zachary Martin, Caleigh Martin, Jordan Hetu, Zachary Edwards, David Edwards, and Aleah Ellis, and his great-granddaughter, Lexi Ellis. In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was predeceased by his son-in-law, Francis Martin.
The family would also like to add a special thank you for all the fantastic care provided by the private caregivers who have become like family and Alicia, from Trinity Hospice of Connecticut for her above-and-beyond care for this family the past three years.
Funeral services will be private. Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to Trinity Hospice of Connecticut. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield has been entrusted with the arrangements. To share a memory of Robert, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com
