Roberto P. Spada, 79, of Rocky Hill (formerly of Wethersfield), beloved husband of 54 years of Daniela M. (Giuliano) Spada, passed away peacefully listening to his favorite Italian music at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 11, 2023. His eyes opened to the song of Amazing Grace and remained open until he passed away during the following song of Hallelujah. Born in Siracusa, Sicily on March 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppina (Micale) Spada. While in Italy, he worked for his father as a motorcycle mechanic and upon turning 18 years old, he owned and operated his own shop. Roberto came to the U.S. in 1968 and proudly received his U.S citizenship in September of 1977, finding employment alongside his sister at CT Springs. After two years, he decided it was time to seek a new career. He was hired at Nutmeg Chrome, where coincidentally his first cousin Paul Spada was employed. Roberto was ambitious and extremely determined. Soon after perfecting the trade, he talked his cousin into opening their own successful business, A-1 Chrome & Polishing in Newington, which is now run by his sons, Claudio and Joseph Spada.
His sports and hobbies included racing motorcycles, roller skating, traveling, gardening, fishing, boating, dancing, singing, laughing, camping, storytelling and driving his Ferrari at Lime Rock, where he was a proud member of the Ferrari Club of America. Most importantly, his favorite hobby was spending time with his family.
A loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather and great-grandfather, Roberto will be forever missed by his loving wife Daniela; his five children and spouses, Roberta Robitaille and husband Ken, Claudio Spada and wife Donna, Joseph Spada and wife Kelly, Alessandra DiMascio and husband Michael and Antonietta Wakefield; 12 adored grandchildren, Brittany Robitaille and fiancé Amadeus, Christopher Robitaille and fiancé Chloe, Caroline, Lilli and Andrew Spada, Joey, Brandon and Sabrina Spada, Elizabeth and Victoria DiMascio and Robert and Jessica Wakefield and one cherished great-granddaughter, Sophie Alice; his sister, Mafalda and brother-in-law Nuccio Golino; his niece, Antonella Wilson and nephew, Giuseppe Golino and families, as well as his relatives residing in Italy, including his uncle, Sebastiano Micale; his aunt, Maria Spada and many many cousins. In addition to his parents, Roberto was sadly predeceased by his beloved grandson, Andrew Spada.
We would like to thank Constellation Hospice Care for their kindness and compassion.
