Rocco V. Cardillo, 89, of Cromwell, formerly of Hartford, died peacefully, Monday, April 15, 2013 in Cromwell. Rocco was the beloved husband of the late Gloria (Mancinelli) Cardillo. Born in Hartford on November 20, 1923, son of the late Giuseppe and Maria Rose (Schelzi) Cardillo. Rocco was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and participated in the D-Day Invasion to liberate Europe in June, 1944. He retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after thirty-nine years of service. Rocco was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his son Joseph ""JJ"" Cardillo and his companion Susan Koczka of Cromwell; nieces Mary Malo and her husband Walt and Maria Geraci; and nephews, John Cooney, Jr., James Geraci, Nick Geraci. Rocco was predeceased by his brother Daniel Cardillo and his sister Florence Cooney.
The funeral is Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Avenue, Hartford. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel.
