

Ronald R. Roth, 84, of Wethersfield, CT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday (January 13, 2012) after a courageous battle with cancer. Ron is survived by his best friend and wife of 59 years, Barbara (Beckwith) Roth. Ron was born on January 6, 1928 in Pen Argyl, PA. His family moved to New Jersey in 1939 and to Connecticut in 1944. He was a resident of Wethersfield for 44 years. He was the son of Williard and Hilda (Heckman) Roth and the brother of Dale Roth, all deceased. He served in the U.S. Army, First Calvary Division in the Pacific arena. A 1946 graduate of Norwich Free Academy, he earned degrees from Mitchell College and the University of Connecticut and also attended Bates College. He later studied at the University of Chicago and Columbia University. Mr. Roth became a banker with the Connecticut Bank & Trust Company and retired as a Vice President in 1988 after 36 years of service. Ron was a life-long Yankees fan, loved UConn sports, and was an avid golfer and fresh water fisherman. A member of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, he served as a trustee and was on the Stewardship Committee. Mr. Roth also served over 20 years as Membership Chairman and a Director of the CBT Alumni Club. He was a charter member of the CBT Golf League, winning the club championship at age 70 with his partner Dave Douglass. Ron is also survived by his son Richard Roth of Cambridge, MA, and his children Hope Roth of Malden, MA; Allison Ray of Upland, CA, and Christina Joanis of East Thetford, VT; and his daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Jeffrey Sands of Rocky Hill, CT, and their children Jacquelyn Gaulin of Middletown, CT, Courtney Hurczyn of Newington, CT, and Matthew Sands of Rocky Hill, CT. He also leaves his great-granddaughter Madelyn Grace Gaulin and two nephews, Scott and Michael Roth. His many friends and anyone that met him will remember his sharp wit, tremendous sense of humor and irrepressible charm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18 at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield with the Rev. T. Michael McDowell officiating. Private burial, with military honors, will be in Plains Cemetery, Franklin, CT. Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
