

Rosario ""Sarino"" Giarratano, 77, of Wethersfield, who was also known as, Jerry the Barber and Mr. Haircut, the loving husband of Pearl (Carelli) Giarratano, died Tuesday (September 27, 2011) at Hartford Hospital with his wife and daughters by his bedside. He was born December 8, 1933 in Hartford and was the son of the late Salvatore and Carmela Giarrantano. He graduated from Bulkeley High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1953. He served aboard the USS Glacier in Antarctica during the Korean War. Sarino was a Master Barber and owned and operated the former Aetna Barber Shop on Asylum Street and the former Mr. Haircut on Franklin Avenue, both in Hartford from 1957 to 1984. He was a Field Representative for the CT Lottery from 1984 to 2000. He was a Boxing Inspector for the Mohegan Sun Casino and Foxwoods Casino. Sarino was most recently employed by Angelo's Market in New Britain. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. Sarino was an original member of the F & L Club, beginning in Hartford at the former Frank's Restaurant. Many fond memories with special friends and relatives were made at the monthly meetings. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family, especially Pearl's pasta sauce as well as playing cards, practical jokes and making people laugh. Besides his childhood sweetheart and loving wife, Pearl of 57 years, he is survived by his two loving daughters and sons-in-law, Jeri and Joe Sitaro and Laura and Michael Bidwell, all of Rocky Hill. He will be sadly missed by his cherished grandson, Justin Sitaro, whose ball games he enjoyed and never missed and his precious granddaughter, ""the baby"" Nicole, whose dance recitals he would always attend. Sarino also leaves behind his brother, Nino Giarratano; sisters, Gloria Ierna and husband, Joey and Margherita Masters and husband, Chuck all of Florida. Sarino is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary-Ann Carelli, who made her home with Sarino and Pearl in Wethersfield and is also survived by his brother-in-law, Phil Cohun of West Hartford and 35 wonderful nieces, nephews and their spouses and children. His family wishes to thank Sarino's closest friends, till the end, Fred DiNardi, Anthony Ciotto and Arthur Speranza, who would always be there whenever Sarino called them to assist in his many projects. He was predeceased by his sisters and their husbands, Nella and Mike D'Onofrio, Josephine and Andy Miele, Elsie and Joe Boucher and Helen Cohun; brother-in-law, Mike Atwood and godchild, Marlene Atwood Livesey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 3 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. The burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield with full military honors. Calling hours are Sunday, October 2 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
