Ruben Perez, 76, of Rocky Hill, loving husband of 52 years of Maria E Perez, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Born on July 15, 1943 in Comerio, Puerto Rico he was the son of the late Monserrate and Manuela Bermudez Perez. Ruben moved to the United States and worked at a Heublein in Hartford for 30 years. He had a passion for classic cars, gardening, authentic Puerto Rican cooking, and was a self taught and motivated jack of all trades. His most loved attribute was his signature “Perez” humor and making everyone laugh. Ruben was known to be the person that everyone could count on, no questions asked. He was the most giving person, loved the ability to help others, but above all he adored his family. Besides his wife Maria, Ruben leaves behind his cherished children: Gladie Menendez, her husband Luis Menendez, daughters Vanessa and Cristina Menendez of Cromwell; Carolyn DiNardi, son Nicholas DiNardi and daughter Gabriella DiNardi of Rocky Hill; and his beloved son Ruben Perez Jr., late daughter Estrella M Perez, and son Xavier Perez of New Britain. In addition, he leaves behind his many siblings and countless nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be private at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Services have been entrusted to D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org. Dear Aunt Maria, Gladie, Carolyn, Ruben JR & family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Uncle Ruben as a hard working man and one of the closest siblings to my Dad (Herminio). In the country side of Comerio, Puerto Rico, they shared a harsh life togther from fetching water to ending their day in a home with no electricity. As their lives began with many obstacles, young Ruben did not let turmoil stand in his way. Aunt Chole remembers, he set off to the city, San Juan and worked hard installing floors. Uncle Ruben would always return to help his family that flourished into 13 brother and sisters. While back home in Comerio, Tia Chole also recounts, Uncle Ruben would affectionally call her, Cabrita, they had no TV, so he would take her to the neighbors to see the comedy of Viruta Y Capulina. His other sister, Aunt Teresa tells us of his passion for horses, two of which were named Furia & Sabache (sic). His baby sister, Aunt Conchi would always laugh at the family joke, será esta la pluma de Bejuco?, where Uncle Ruben or Herminio would be there to repeat it!

There are so many stories involving Uncle Ruben, the most compelling is, the life he shared with his wife Maria affectinaltely known to many in the family as Telin. They meet at approximately age 6 and were married 52 years. The two are models of folks who migrated from PR to CT with barriers in language, education, etc., inspite of this, they built a great family, home, and work.
During the worst of Uncle Rubens illness, I witnessed Aunt María selflessly take care of Uncle Ruben in their home 24/7, this is an endeavor that many are not able to handle. Aunt Maria says there were many that helped attend to Uncle Ruben.
Dr Morris Papernik, we thank-you so much for the tremendous work you did in his medical treatment.

Uncle Ruben, que Dios te bendiga. The suffering is over, go and join my Dad, he is waiting for his big brother. You and your other siblings will crack jokes and watch over your childr
