Salvatore Amato

Salvatore Amato, of Wethersfield, with dignity and grace departed this good earth at his home surrounded by his loving family into the hands of God’s Heaven on October 6, 2026. Born on March 7, 1930 in Canicattini Bagni, Province of Siracusa, Italy, he was the son of the late Emanuele Amato and Concettina (Mozzicato) Amato. He docked in the United States in 1953.

He lived life on his own terms, embracing every moment with passion. A skilled mason, developer, builder and businessman, Sal took great pride in his work and creating lasting foundations through the many projects he brought to life. He divided his time between the United States and Montego Bay, Jamaica, where he enjoyed living on the water, the culture and the beauty of the Island.

A passionate loyal daily golfer, Sal was a member of the Wethersfield Country Club for 50 years and continued playing into his nineties. He took great pride in making his own homemade wine and was always generous in sharing a glass or bottle with family and friends. There was always room for a good daily cigar, and a good story to be told. He had his own recipe for a life well lived. He remained faithful to his favorite pastimes until the age of 96.

Sal leaves behind a devoted loving family as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and godfather, and leaves an extensive family of friends who have been with him for a lifetime who will always remember him with love and gratitude. In addition to his parents, Sal was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Emanuela and Paolo Cassarino.

Calling hours will be Friday, October 16 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Tee – Connecticut at https://firstteeconnecticut.org/ to help introduce young people to the game of golf and foster the value of sportsmanship, integrity, and perseverance that Sal cherished throughout his life.
