Salvatore C. Vassallo

Salvatore “Sal” C. Vassallo, 91, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 64 years of Lucia (Trombatore) Vassallo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at The Hebrew Center for Health & Rehabilitation, West Hartford. Born in Floridia, province of Siracusa, Sicily on August 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Giuseppa (Intagliata) Vassallo. Sal came to the U.S. in 1954 to start a new life. He served proudly in the U.S. Army where he was deployed to Korea. A lifelong skilled mason, Sal honed his craft on many local housing developments and construction projects. He was a member of the Floridian Society, where he frequently met friends to play cards. Fishing was also a favorite activity.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Sal will be forever missed by his devoted wife Lucia; three children, Debra Vassallo Wong and husband David of Glastonbury, Ross Vassallo and wife Carolann Gombos Vassallo of Easton and David Vassallo of Cromwell and his seven adored grandchildren, Matteo, Alex and Leo Wong of Glastonbury, Christopher and Julia Vassallo of Easton and Adam and Alexia Vassallo of Cromwell. In addition, he is survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Sal was predeceased by his brother, Rosario Vassallo and sister, Lucia Vassallo Cantone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Avenue, Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Entombment with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
