

Sebastian DiMauro of Cromwell, formerly of Fairfield, husband of Elizabeth (Zito) DiMauro, died Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Anna (Dente) DiMauro. He was a graduate of the Loomis School (Loomis-Chaffee) class of ’42 where he had been concertmaster of the Loomis orchestra, President of the Chess Club, and manager of the basketball team. After graduation, he spent his freshman year at Trinity College in Hartford before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He served as a surgical technician on the medical staff of a U.S. Army troop ship serving in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He then was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Transportation Corps. As WWII was ending, he returned to college and received his Bachelor’s degree from Harvard in 1948 and his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1950. He then began a long career in retailing, starting with G. Fox & Co., later working with Allied Stores, Federated Department Stores, and finally retiring from Macy’s in 1987.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Luanne DiMauro and William Derick of Glastonbury, his son and daughter-in-law, Damon and Susannah DiMauro of Haverhill, MA, three grandchildren, Gabriel DiMauro and his wife Aurélie of France, Nathanaël DiMauro of Stony Brook, NY, and Eliza Derick of Glastonbury, and his extended Zito family members.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 29, 2016 directly at First Church, 250 Main St.,Wethersfield, CT. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Funeral Services have been entrusted to D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, CT. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a charity or church of the donor’s choice.
