
Shirley Mae (Arnold) McCue passed away, peacefully on Friday, (December 9, 2005), after struggling with the effects of Lewy body disease. Shirley was born Nov. 25, 1925, the only child of Harold and Gertrude (Macdonough) Arnold. She lived in Wethersfield for most of her life, graduating from Wethersfield High School in 1943. She graduated from Middlesex Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She trained to be a Cadet Nurse for World War II. Shirley married Richard H. McCue, and they had three sons. Shirley and Richard did some square dancing and started a teen square dance group, at one point in their lives. They both enjoyed gardening. Shirley worked at Hartford Hospital for several years, when the boys were young. She enjoyed cooking and baking and had several collections, including an antique salt collection, Annalee dolls and an interest in stamps. She enjoyed being surrounded with antiques, and was proud to be the owner of one of the oldest homes in Wethersfield. They usually had an English Setter dog. Richard died in June of 1999. Shirley moved to Arden Courts in Avon, when her health deteriorated, and she couldn't live alone anymore. With more health problems, she went to Avon Health Center. The family would like to thank both of the Avon facilities for all their wonderful care. Shirley leaves three sons and their wives, Richard and Teresa McCue of Houston TX, Brian and Elisa McCue of Barkhamsted and Bruce and Lucinda McCue of Wethersfield. She also leaves five grandchildren, Mike, Laura, Linda, Scott and Christopher. The funeral is Tuesday, December 13, at 10 a.m. in First Church of Christ, 250 Main St., Wethersfield. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Calling hours will be on Mon., Dec. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
