

Susan Pamela Kalman, of Wethersfield passed away February 26, 2015 with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of Max M. Kalman of Wethersfield and the late Rose DeMilia Kalman. Susan lived in Wethersfield and West Hartford. Born September 26, 1949 in Hartford, Susan was a graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph Academy and attended Manhattanville College and the University of Saint Joseph. Susan studied violin and piano at the Hartt School of Music. She was awarded top honors for performance and interpretation in piano. Susan was employed by the Traveler's Insurance Company and Hooker & Holcomb Pension Consultants. Because of her extraordinary ability in understanding software development, she was recruited by Winklevoss Technologies of Greenwich for whom she worked until her retirement. Classical music was an important part of Susan's life. She loved to listen, study and play the works of Mozart, Bach and Beethoven. The composer to whom she devoted intense studies was Igor Stravinsky. In November, 2013, Susan was invited to Oberlin College to pursue her research studies. Designated a ""Stravinsky Scholar"", she was given access to the college archives and was able to research the ""Symphony of Psalms"" score Stravinsky used in a performance at Oberlin. In spite of her work obligations, music and research, Susan always found time to be with her family and friends. A loving and caring person, she touched many lives. She was especially happy when she could be with her niece, Danielle and nephew, Corey. In addition to her father, Susan is survived by her brother, Michael and his wife, Christine of Berlin; her niece Danielle Kalman of Southbury; her nephew, Corey Kalman of Middletown; her Aunt Angie, Uncle Joe, Aunt Carol, Uncle Vinnie, Aunt Lorraine, Uncle Albert ""Zep"", Uncle Harold, Uncle Andy, Aunt Claudia her cousins and many close friends especially Cindy Collins. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Patricia DeFusco, Susan's physician and friend and the staffs of Jefferson House and Hartford HealthCare at Home for their care and compassion during Susan's final days. Susan's family will receive friends and family at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield on Friday, March 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held following the calling hours at 7 p.m. The burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
