This will not be an ordinary death notice as there’s nothing ordinary about VicMom. What lies beneath a quiet unassuming exterior is a Mom fiercely devoted to her 3 children as well her 3 siblings and more than 20 cousins. Even as she approached her retirement years she could still charm infants, toddlers, and young adults in her life’s work as a Paraprofessional in various schools in Rocky Hill over her 30 year career. She had an uncanny ability to connect with young people no matter their age in ways even the pros she worked with would marvel at day in and day out. The connections to young ones would carry on in retirement to 4 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews.
When dark days suddenly appeared in 1999, Vic summoned her deep faith that carried her thru a bone marrow transplant where the most optimistic medical team would anticipate survival . When she did return from the Boston transplant the Hartford area oncologists simply said…”we heard about your journey and amazing outcome.” Ten years removed from the transplant the family heard the very rare words following a Leukemia diagnosis - “you are cured”.
Those that know Vic well would offer she is mostly quiet with an easily summoned hearty laugh. Never one to project the inner strength that has clearly carried her and her family through many difficult times. The cover of the book fell far short of the story deep inside.
Never an outdoors adventurer…until her grandkids were involved. Whether racing around the backcountry of Yellowstone in an ATV or white water rafting in the Southwest’s mighty rivers. The number of Baseball, Softball and Basketball games she has seen, numbers in the thousands! “Nons” was always her grandkids North Star.
Raised in Hartford and predeceased by her amazing parents Ray and Grace DeLuca. Oldest sister Betty Ann, younger sister Marigrace and husband Raymond Inzero, all living close by in Rocky Hill. Younger brother Raymond, twin to Marigrace living in California with his husband Josef. Vicki would marry Stephen Sherman in 1974. In 1975 VicMom would pass on her own DNA to oldest son Steve Jr. now living in Austin TX with his wife Misha, daughters Eva Grace Sherman and Kayla Rae Sherman. Daughter Staci living in Middletown, CT with husband Alex Porch and daughters Tessa Victoria Porch and Cooper Ashley Porch. Youngest son Scott, wife Alexandra and son Parker Everett Sherman living in Franklin, MA.
A visitation will be held at D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, CT 06109 on Sunday September 27, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish - St. James Church, 767 Elm St, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 on Monday September 28, 2026, at 10:30 am. All are asked to gather immediately at the church.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm St, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
