Vincenzo Reale, 93, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband for 56 years of Salvatrice (Bottaro) Reale, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Born in Siracusa, Sicily on February 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Serafina (Chimirri) Reale. Vincenzo came to the U.S. on May 19, 1966. He was a carpenter by trade, but then went to work for the Metropolitan District Commission for 17 years, starting on a road crew and then ending his career in dispatch, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Canicattinese Society and the Santa Lucia Society. Vincenzo enjoyed gardening, playing cards-especially Scopa, and cheering for his favorite Italian soccer team, Juventus. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Vincenzo will be forever missed by his loving wife Salvatrice; his son, Giuseppe “Joe” Reale and fiancée Kathryn Wray of Wethersfield; his daughter, Leandra Lee and husband Christopher of Southington and his four adored grandchildren, Nadia and Anthony Golino and Joseph and Ryon Lee. He is also survived by his brother, Antonio Reale and wife Nella of Bloomfield and two sisters, Carmela Giovannucci of Newington and Connie Martins and husband Tony of Wethersfield, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Antonio Giovannucci. Special thanks to the staff at Bel-Air Manor, especially Robert “Bobby” Goins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 18 at 10 a.m. at St. James Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Attendees are asked to go directly to the church. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
