Virginia A. “Ginny” (Cutonilli) Sanzaro, RN, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 8th, 2015. She was born in Greenville, PA on March 22, 1930 to Cataldo Cutonilli and Anna Miele Cutonilli. She called Wethersfield her home for 57 years. Virginia graduated from Naugatuck High School and received her Nursing Degree from Meriden Hospital. While attending Columbia University, she met the love of her life, Louis Jr., and they were married for 54 years – he passed away in 2010. Virginia had a very long and enjoyable nursing career. She worked at Meriden Hospital and St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. She was Director of Nursing Services for Wethersfield Manor and Maple View Manor and retired from nursing while working at Apple Health Rehab. She was a founding and active member of The Church of the Incarnation. Virginia had a number of interests, which included bingo, bird watching, cooking, cruises and of course the casino trips to Atlantic City, Las Vegas and Mohegan Sun. She loved watching sports. Over the years, she attended every game that her children participated in from high school to college to tournaments. She was known for providing the “tail gate” food for all her children’s teammates after each game. Her selfless nature found her traveling to Maine, Providence and Princeton, all in the same weekend, after running a nursing home all week. She continued her avid attendance as her grandchildren grew up and she proudly watched them at their events: football, baseball, swimming and golf. Virginia put one thing ahead of all else and that was family. She leaves behind to fondly remember her five children and their spouses: Louis and Margaret Sanzaro III, Michael and Laurie Sanzaro, Marianne and David Herold, David and Sandy Sanzaro, Andrew Sanzaro. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren: Jennifer and Jeremy, Louis IV and Leah, Jessica and Jack, Jaclyn and Steve, Michael, Anthony, Matthew, David, Krisiti, Alyssa, Stephanie and Andrew Jr; and seven great grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Ryan, Phallyn, MaKenzie, Jack and Louis 5th. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Michael Sanzaro and many relatives, nieces and nephews and friends. Virginia was predeceased by her brother, Anthony and wife Lucille Cutonilli, sisters-in-law, Jessie and her husband Bill Sbrocco, Virginia and her husband Salvatore Genovese and Frances Sanzaro.
The funeral is Monday, July 13, at 9 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at The Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield.
