Waldemar "Wally" Nieves, 54, of Hartford, son of Pedro Luis Nieves (Belen) and Luz Minerva Rivera (Jose L. Ortiz) passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on December 7, 1970, Wally lived a life defined by dedication to his community, a wonderful sense of humor, and an absolute devotion to his family.
For over 25 years, Wally was a steadfast presence at the City of Hartford Public School System, where he served as a respected School Safety Officer. He was much more than a Safety Officer; he was a trusted mentor and a friendly face who brought a sense of safety and rapport to the students and staff he served. A devoted sports fan, Wally was always ready to cheer on his beloved Buffalo Bills and Boston Red Sox. Whether at a game, watching from home, or just talking sports, his enthusiasm was contagious.
Wally had a heart of gold, known for his extraordinary kindness and infectious sense of humor. He was always quick with a joke, effortlessly lighting up any room he entered. His greatest passion, however, was his family, especially his beloved children, whom he cherished deeply.
Wally’s memory will be cherished by his six loving children: Justin, Giovanni, Kristopher, Tristian (Karoline), Maikeyla and Jeremy. He also leaves behind his precious grandchild.
He will also be dearly missed by his six siblings: Aizadith, Elizabeth, Pedro (Gloribel), Melvyn (Erika), Justin, and Kayla (Rich) as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews who adored their Tio Wally.
